Classic car rust-proofing FAQ

Is this better than Waxoyl or Lanoguard for a classic?
For a car you intend to keep, yes. Waxoyl and bitumen-style underseals can crack and peel, trapping water against the steel and actually speeding up rust. Lanolin products like Lanoguard stay soft and wash thin, so they need re-applying often. We use Bilt Hamber Dynax UB plus cavity wax — it stays flexible, self-heals, penetrates deep into closed sections, and is independently proven in ASTM-B117 salt-spray testing. Waxoyl was a good product in its day; the chemistry has simply moved on.
My classic already has some surface rust — can you still treat it?
In most cases, yes. We mechanically de-scale loose rust back to sound metal, dry-prepare the surface, then inject wax into the cavities and seal the underside. Cars with more advanced rust may need extra prep time, which can affect the price — message us a few photos of the underside and we'll give you an honest, exact quote.
Will it spoil the look or smell of my car?
No. The work is on the underside, sills and cavities — out of sight. Dynax UB cures to a tough, clean finish rather than a messy bitumen mess, and there's no lingering smell once it's set. Your car looks the same on top; it's just protected where it matters underneath.
Should I do it before winter or a garage layup?
Ideally, yes. A classic sitting in a damp garage over winter can suffer more from trapped moisture than a summer of driving. Treating it while the underside is dry, before it's laid up, seals out that moisture and gives you the best long-term result.
Can you work around my restoration?
Absolutely — and it's the smartest time to do it. If the car is stripped, in primer or up on stands, the cavities and panels are accessible in a way they never will be again once it's back together.
